What do the Air Jordan 1, New Balance 550 and adidas Forum have in common, besides their recent rise in popularity and colorways? The answer lies in the ’80s sneaker aesthetic that these now-fashionable sneakers embody. While the vintage look continues to dominate the sneaker world, adidas hopes to expand its audience with another baseball silhouette, the adidas Top Ten Low.
Like many retro sneakers, this pair is made from smooth leather. Scarlet red dominates the sides, while the white toebox is back in line with the retro style. Like the Superstar and other classics, three leather strips with jagged edges are embroidered on the sides. There are more characters in the language, but in a more creative way. The humorous drawing of a basketball hoop with the text TOP TEN above it, printed in a playful font, recalls the funky shapes that were characteristic of the graphic design of the eighties. The white midsole completes the look, but the sole is red to balance the two tones.
